If you stop by one of these shops tell them you heard about them from Oh Kaye Quilting!
My mother told me that if I couldn’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. The shops listed here are places where I was welcomed, helped, and left feeling excited to create. I can recommend them personally. If I had a less than positive experience at a quilt shop, I just didn’t list them. I like to believe they were just having a bad day. If I am in their area again, I will give them another chance.
I am NOT a fabric snob. I buy fabric at JoAnn, Hobby Lobby and Walmart. . . but they are not nearly as fun or satisfying as talking to quilty folks at a real quilt shop.
ARIZONA
Mulqueen Sewing and Fabric Centers There are 3 locations. I have only been to the Tempe store but I understand Mesa is amazing. Mulqueen’s has a LOT of fabric at good prices. And a lot of machines and longarms. I spent WAY too much money there. . .
CALIFORNIA
Back Porch Fabric 157 Grand Ave., Pacific Grove, CA I love this shop. I could have stayed for a lot longer. . . They have a plethora of modern fabrics and a beautiful gallery of quilts that was featuring a local quilt artist when I visited in Nov. 2019. The two women who were there were friendly and helpful.
Sewing Machines Plus Did you know there are two actual physical locations? I didn’t, but I have been to both and the staff at both stores were knowlegable and friendly. They have a lot of machines, longarms, notions and thread. Not much fabric.

NEW YORK
Calico Gals 3906 New Court Ave, Syracuse, NY I visited this shop (rolled up in the RV!) during the peak of COVID. They were so kind and friendly! It’s a beautiful shop and this is where I bought a sashiko kit (complete with help from the shop worker) that I did on the road heading back to Utah. I believe this is the shop that started the Row By Row Experience.
NORTH CAROLINA
The Broken Needle 219 N Carolina 98 E, Bunn, NC A small shop with a lot of wonderful fabrics. I found some great fat quarter packs and the owners were delightful. This is out-of-the-way but if you are in the area, check it out.

The Sewing Basket 51 South 100 East, American Fork, UT This is a tiny shop in a historic home, complete with chickens! They have the more popular collections of fabric from Riley Blake and other manufacturers. They are helpful and friendly.
Quilt Etc. 11 E Main Street, Sandy, UT This is the place to go if you need a pattern or an inspiration. The clerks are helpful and happy and there is a good selection of fabrics.
The Quilter’s Lodge 12214 S 900 E, Draper, UT I consider this my home quilt store. There is nothing better than walking into a store and having a store clerk yell, “Hi, Kaye! What are you working on today?” They carry a broad selection of fabrics with a good emphasis on modern fabrics like Kaffe Fasset, Tula Pink, and Ruby Star Society.
Stylish Fabrics 138 N Main St., Logan UT This is such a cute shop with great people on staff. If you are in northern Utah you need to stop by and check out the beautiful samples and great fabrics.
