My Favorite Quilt Shops

If you stop by one of these shops tell them you heard about them from Oh Kaye Quilting!

My mother told me that if I couldn’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.  The shops listed here are places where I was welcomed, helped, and left feeling excited to create.  I can recommend them personally. If I had a less than positive experience at a quilt shop, I just didn’t list them. I like to believe they were just having a bad day. If I am in their area again, I will give them another chance.

I am NOT a fabric snob. I buy fabric at JoAnn, Hobby Lobby and Walmart. . . but they are not nearly as fun or satisfying as talking to quilty folks at a real quilt shop.

Mulqueen Sewing and Fabric Centers There are 3 locations. I have only been to the Tempe store but I understand Mesa is amazing. Mulqueen’s has a LOT of fabric at good prices. And a lot of machines and longarms. I spent WAY too much money there. . .

Back Porch Fabric   157 Grand Ave., Pacific Grove, CA      I love this shop. I could have stayed for a lot longer. . . They have a plethora of modern fabrics and a beautiful gallery of quilts that was featuring a local quilt artist when I visited in Nov. 2019.  The two women who were there were friendly and helpful.

Sewing Machines Plus Did you know there are two actual physical locations? I didn’t, but I have been to both and the staff at both stores were knowlegable and friendly. They have a lot of machines, longarms, notions and thread. Not much fabric.

Marden’s This is a salvage store and there are several locations. I have been to several and they all have a LOT of fabric for cheap. This is NOT a place to get help with your projects but go ahead and get inspired!

Sew Orchid 316 Main Street, Norway, ME This shop is in western Maine but it is worth the (very scenic) drive. It’s a cute shop that has all the things you need- I was looking for Misty Fuse the day I went there and found it!

Spring Water Designs 9691 Gerwig Lane Suite G, Columbia MD This shop is a little hard to find- Siri was not all that helpful, but it is worth the search! It is a beautiful shop with lovely designs, lots of longarms, and fun fabrics. Very friendly family run business.

Quiltique 213 N Stephanie St., Henderson, NV      This is a wonderfully inspiring store. Lots of quilts to look at and a good amount of kits to buy. Very helpful sales people and lots of notions.

Sew Yeah Quilting 3690 N Rancho Dr., Las Vegas, NV This store has a LOT of fabric. . . and they were pretty cleaned out when I was there because the travel team was vending in Paducah. Lots of panels.

Bits N Pieces 70 Bridge Street, Pelham, NH There is a LOT of fabric in this store! They have kits galore and lots of nice regional fabrics. If you are looking for something, they just might have it!

Calico Gals 3906 New Court Ave, Syracuse, NY I visited this shop (rolled up in the RV!) during the peak of COVID. They were so kind and friendly! It’s a beautiful shop and this is where I bought a sashiko kit (complete with help from the shop worker) that I did on the road heading back to Utah. I believe this is the shop that started the Row By Row Experience.

The Broken Needle    219 N Carolina 98 E, Bunn, NC   A small shop with a lot of wonderful fabrics. I found some great fat quarter packs and the owners were delightful.  This is out-of-the-way but if you are in the area, check it out.

Cary Quilting Company  935 N Harrison Ave, Cary, NC        This is a great shop with lots of patterns, fabrics, and notions. I found some Advent panels that I hadn’t seen before. (I have since. . . but I was glad to buy them at CQC.)

Quilts Like Crazy 1241 S Main St Ste 8, Wake Forest, NC This store is under new ownership and she is really freshening things up. I found some fabrics there that I hadn’t seen before- and of course I had to buy!!!

Whitlock’s Sewing Center 1555 12th Street SE Suite 100 Salem, OR If you need thread or longarm accessories, this is the place! They also have vacs to pick up all the threads! And there’s a quilt/coffee shop next door called Will-N-Bee’z!

Will-N-Bee’z 1555 12th Street SE   Salem, OR This is a cute little quilt shop with a coffee shop inside! Briliant! They have lots of fabrics and cute samples. Right next door to Whitlock’s!

Beckie’s Sewing Center 2030 Old Highway 25E, Tazewell, TN This is a spacious shop with machines, longarms, fabric and lots of classroom space. They have a great selection and are close to the historic Cumberland Gap.

Fiberworx Fabric 9242 FM 725 McQueeney, TX If you are anywhere east of San Antonio you HAVE to find this shop! It is pretty unassuming on the outside, but when you walk in the front door you will fall in love. This shop has great blenders and exclusive quilt patterns as well as really friendly people.

Malouf’s Fabrics 503 W 11th Street, Friona, TX If you are WAY out in the west panhandle, check out Malouf’s. They have a wide assortment of fabrics including lots of upholstery fabric and batting which can be hard to find.

American Quilting 426 W 800 N, Orem, UT This store has a good variety of fabrics and the largest selection of white-ish fabrics that I have come across.

Pine Needles 1100 W 7800 S, West Jordan, UT Need pre-cuts? This is your spot. They have lots of user-friendly patterns and fabrics.

The Sewing Basket 51 South 100 East, American Fork, UT This is a tiny shop in a historic home, complete with chickens! They have the more popular collections of fabric from Riley Blake and other manufacturers. They are helpful and friendly.

Quilt Etc 11 E Main Street, Sandy, UT     This is the place to go if you need a pattern or an inspiration.  The clerks are helpful and happy and there is a good selection of fabrics.

The Quilter’s Lodge   12214 S 900 E, Draper, UT     I consider this my home quilt store. There is nothing better than walking into a store and having a store clerk yell, “Hi, Kaye! What are you working on today?” They carry a broad selection of fabrics with a good emphasis on modern fabrics like Kaffe Fasset, Tula Pink, and Ruby Star Society.

Stylish Fabrics  138 N Main St., Logan UT This is such a cute shop with great people on staff. If you are in northern Utah you need to stop by and check out the beautiful samples and great fabrics.

Quality Sewing and Vacuum There are several locations- I went to Tukwila. They mostly deal in machines and longarms but had a little of everything. The staff I met were fabulous!

Stitched with Obsession 2411E Main Street Ste. 101, Merrill, WI This is a fabulous shop in central Wisconsin that is really all about longarming. They have a lot of wide back material and a fantastic classroom where you can get some great education.
