Introducing: Mary Yoder

I worked with Mary at Academy 2021 and got to know her. She is on the quiet side, but she loves quilting, her family and she is an amazing person. You should see the clothes that she makes herself! I’m looking forward to working with her again this year.

Artist’s Statement

I Love Handi Quilter by Mary Yoder

When asked to do this challenge quilt I wanted to try and create some film rolls so that is why I chose the open Dresden plates. When I create a quilt I like to use numerous tools. I use Pro Stitcher for some of the designs. I used free motion for some of the designs and also used rulers for creating my straight lines. I could not find designs that I wanted to use so I also created some of my own designs using Pro Stitcher Designer. I have such a strong love for Handi Quilter so that is why I quilted that on my quilt.

Learn More About Mary

Mary started sewing at the age of 12, when her mother allowed her to sew on her basic domestic sewing machine. Mary quickly figured out how to put things together and loved creating.

Over 40 years ago, Mary made her first quilt from leftover scraps from garment sewing, backed it with a purchased blanket, and called it a quilt. She continued making quilts but did not like finishing them on her domestic sewing machine. When she saw the HQ Sixteen®, Mary knew it was for her. Once the Pro-Stitcher® came out she added it to her machine and now loves finishing her quilts using Pro-Stitcher along with other free motion techniques. Mary has now upgrade to a HQ Forte® and is loving the extra space it gives her.

Mary has taught different aspects of sewing for over 20 years. She has enjoyed focusing her teaching skills toward the art of quilting and is excited to have joined Handi Quilter as an Educator.

Mary lives in Southern California. She has 4 daughters and 8 grandchildren and loves spending time with them.
